Wood for human use is known as timber. In order to obtain timber, the first thing that needs to be done is to cut down the trees, a process known as tree felling. This is currently done with huge machines known as treedozers, which cut the trunk, strip off the bark and small branches, and then load the clean trunk on a huge lorry; the whole operation only takes about one minute.
